Modern Warfare 2 Release Party

9 November 2009

Modern Warfare 2 Launch Party
Live streaming video and impressions from the CoD: MW2 launch party in NYC featuring DJ Jazzy Jeff.

November 9, 2009Modern Warfare 2 is without question the biggest game of 2009 and to celebrate its launch Activision is throwing a huge release party in New York City.

Fans got the opportunity to play the hyper-violent shooter a few hours before the midnight launch. Several hundred fans lined up outside the tent decorated with camouflage and LCD monitors looping the launch trailer, braving a wait of more than hour to get the chance to play the online multiplayer. Inside, DJ Jazzy Jeff was spinning while an MC tried to hype up the fans with random lines about the game. Jazzy managed to surprise everyone when he magically worked CrazyTown’s “Butterfly” into the mix.

Off to the side of the main room, Activision had a special VIP area where an array of celebrities shot each other in the face with M4A1 Assault Rifles. Hip-hop legend and Borderlands Super Fan #1 Ice-T skipped past the hors d’oeuvres and dove headlong into the Team Deathmatch. He played round after round, while his wife CoCo looked on in boredom.

Also along for the ride were New York Yankees’ Nick Swisher and Jerry Hairston. Soprano’s star and current Wild Thing James Gandolfini also made an appearance, though he politely declined any requests to speak with press. Other late arrivals were Method Man and Lloyd Banks of G Unit fame.

The cast of celebrity invitees had begun to head home with Collector’s Edition copies of Modern Warfare 2 to thank them for their time. For everyone else, the wait would last a few more hours. Will it have been worth it?
